Addressing Issues of Social Exclusion in Limerick city

The objective of the Limerick Regeneration Agencies is to improve the quality of life for residents within key Limerick City locations. This is to be achieved through the creation and implementation of a Programme for a radical new landscape, which, among other things, will incorporate quality-designed modern homes, improved community facilities and integrated services.

The Limerick Regeneration Agencies welcome ideas, suggestions and submissions from any organisation, body or individual in relation to the Regeneration Proposals. Please Contact Us. The two Limerick Regeneration Agencies were set up by the Irish Government on June 15th, June 2007. The sponsoring Department is the Department for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government.

About the Project

A number of housing estates on the Northside and Southside of Limerick City have experienced serious social problems and high profile criminal activity over many years. The Fitzgerald Report was commissioned by the Government in late 2006, its remit to investigate the issues prevailing in these areas and to make recommendations directly to the Government’s Cabinet Committee on Social Inclusion. It was presented to this Committee and its recommendations were approved and endorsed.

A key element of the approved recommendations was the creation of two new special- purpose Government Agencies for the Southside and Northside of Limerick City. These Agencies were established by Government Orders dated June 15th, 2007, and The Relevant Legislation has been enacted. At a strategic level, the Boards will oversee the planning and implementation of a comprehensive and integrated Regeneration Programme for both the Northside and Southside of Limerick City.
