Planning Permission Granted for Sheltered Housing at Rear of LEDP

The final element of Planning Permission has been granted by Limerick City Council for the development of a new housing project (Sheltered) for older persons, on a site at the rear of the Limerick Enterprise Development Park (LEDP) in Southill.

This project consists of 35 dwellings and will cost just over €5million.

The tendering/procurment process will be initiated immediately and it is hoped that construction will begin within three months.

The project should create in the region of 70 jobs over the period of construction.

Opening of St. Mary’s Park Creche

President Mary McAlease visited Limerick today and officated at the formal opening of a new state of the art community creche beside the river Shannon, in St. Mary’s Park.

This project was planned and involved the hard-work and committment of serveral people and groups over many years and had reached an advanced stage prior to the arrival of the Regeneration Project.

The Regeneration Agencies helped to get the project “over the line“ and has contributed a sum of €350,000 to offset the funding dificit on the capital cost of €1.3million. Most of the funding has come from the Department of Children and Youth affairs (EU childcare investment programme) and administred through POBAL.

A further key funding contribution came from the JP McManus Trust. The HSE West has also contributed significatly to this very valuable project.

The whole area of childcare, child protection and welfare is a crucial element of the Social pillar of the LImerick Regeneration Masterplan.

Construction starts in Cliona Park Moyross

The first Housing construction of the limerick Regeneration Programme finally got underway at Cliona Park Moyross today when the Contractor Clancy Construction (build@clancyconstruction.ie) went on site.

The contract consists of 33 new homes broken down as 20 apartments for older persons and 13 houses for families. The cost of the contract is just under five Million euro and it will take about 15 months to complete.

The project should provide in the region of 70 jobs during the course of construction.

Signing of Contracts for Cliona Park Moyross

The new Minister for Housing and Planning, Deputy Willie Penrose T.D has visited the Regeneration project in LImerick. He met the Boards of Limerick Regeneration and the Community Consultative Forum which consists of residents from each of the five Regeneration neighbourhoods, Moyross, St. Marys Park, Ballinacurra Weston, O’Malley/Keyes Park and Carew/Kincora Park.

He also visted the newly build community creche in St. Marys park and the Our Lady of Lourdes Community centre in Ballinacurra Weston.

He also participated at the preliminary signing of contracts between the Regeneration Agencies and Clancy Construction for the first new build project at Cliona Park Moyross, which is due to start on the first week of August. The Minister welcomed the recent announcement of €2 million investment by Atlantic Philantropy towards the Social Aspects of the Regeneration Programme, and he said that his Department would provide part matching funding of €500,000 in 2011 for this new intivative.

He strongly re-iterated  Governement support for the Limerick Regeneration Programme and asked for all stakeholders to play their full part in the process.

Visit by Housing Minister Michael Finneran to sites of proposed Limerick Regeneration Projects.

On Monday 6th December Mr. Michael Finneran T.D, Minister for Housing and Local Services, visted the offices of the Limerick Agencies where he posititivly re-iterated the Governments committment to the Limerick Regeneration Programme.

He stated that despite the current very difficult economic situation and the national budget coming the following day, the Government approval of the first phase of the Regeneration Programme annoument in June 2010 (26 projects-€337 million) was still firmly in place and that he  looked forward to further progress (praticularly in relaion to the building of new homes) in 2011.

He met members of the Regeneration (citywide) Community Consultative forum which includes residents from the Regeneration areas of Ballinacurra Weston, Southill, Moyross and St. Marys Park and he also had a business meeting with Brendan Kenny Chief Executive and Tom Mackey City Manager.

During the day he visited the site of the proposed first new construction project at Cliona Park Moyross which is shortly going to tender as well as the site of another proposed new development at Lord Edward Street on the Southside.
