This proposed new scheme consists of 79 housing units (58 of which being houses and apartments for the elderly).

The scheme also includes a retail/commerical unit, a community facility (incorporting a function room, exhibition area, meeting area and ancillary facilities) and all necessary roads, services and site works.

The 79 units comprise 14 3 bed houses, 32 2 bed houses, 2 3 bed duplex apartments, 3 2 bed dupled apartments, 16 2 bed apartments, 10 1 bed apartments and 2 1 bed apartments for special needs.

This proposed new housing development is a key project in the implementation of the Limerick Regeneration Masterplan. These new homes will be ring fenced for households/families requiring replacement housing in the Limerick Regeneration areas, in particular Ballinacurra Weston.

The project is being led and manged by Limerick City Council and the planning applicaion (Part 8) will be considered by the elected members of Limerick City Council in early 2012, following which (if approved) more detailed designs will be formulated prior to seking of tenders for construction.

Submissions or objections with respect to the proposed development, dealing with the proper planning and sustaninable development of the area, in which the development of the area would be situated, may be made in writing to the Planning and Development department of Limerick City Council. Merchants Quay, Limerick before 4pm on 9th February 2012.

This new development is a key part of the Limerick Regeneration Programme and will be the first new build project in the Southill Regeneration area.

It Consists of 35 houses, 22 are two bedroom apartments and 13 are one bedroomed.

It will also have a management suite consisting of a caretakers apartment, and a reception/office/communal area with a meeting area suitable for use by the wider community.

The development will be predominantly, two storey with one storey at the main entrance beside the communal facility with a three storey block at the eastern end.

There will be a secure internal courtyard from which the apartments at the rear will be accessed.

The apartments at the front will all be accessed off the street with the ground floor apartments having their own front door and small garden.

Each house will have its own private open space in the form of a small garden or a balacony.

Secure car parking will be provided as part of the courtyard.

It is hoped to have a contractor on site by April 2012.

This repot was commissioned jointly by Limerick Regeneration and the faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, University of LImerick.

Feeling Safe in Our Community

Planning Permission has been granted by Limerick City Council for the provision of a new full size all-weather (artifical) pitch at the grounds of Star Rovers Football Club in St. Marys Park. This project is being funded by the Limerick Regeneration Agencies and it has been a key objective of the programme in the context of creating better play, sporting facilities and opportunities for both youngsters and adults.

It is expected that work on the project will commence before the end of the year (2011).

This road will go from Coonagh Cross to Knockalisheen road (and will include the re-vamping of the Knockisheelin road to watch house cross).

Crucially this new road will connect to the existing cul de sac at the top of Moyross.

This project has been a vital component and objective of the limerick Regeneration Masterplan. Most of the individual projects in the Moyross Regeneration Plan are reliant on the development of this piece of transport infrastructure, therefore planning permission is warmly welcomed by the Regeneration Agencies. The tendering/procurment process will be initiated immediately and it is hoped that construction will begin within three months.

The project should create in the region of 70 jobs over the period of construction.

President Mary McAlease visited Limerick today and officated at the formal opening of a new state of the art community creche beside the river Shannon, in St. Mary’s Park.

This project was planned and involved the hard-work and committment of serveral people and groups over many years and had reached an advanced stage prior to the arrival of the Regeneration Project.

The Regeneration Agencies helped to get the project “over the line“ and has contributed a sum of €350,000 to offset the funding dificit on the capital cost of €1.3million. Most of the funding has come from the Department of Children and Youth affairs (EU childcare investment programme) and administred through POBAL.

A further key funding contribution came from the JP McManus Trust. The HSE West has also contributed significatly to this very valuable project.

The whole area of childcare, child protection and welfare is a crucial element of the Social pillar of the LImerick Regeneration Masterplan.

A group of eight people were selected from the committee to travel, as there was a limit of eight people - which left some members of the committee disappointed.

However, we were delighted to have the use of our community bus, which was driven by Martin O’ Connor of St. Marys A.I.D which was greatly appreciated.

Every member of the group got to meet the President individually, this was followed by some light refreshments and some music.

Overall everyone had a great day, the visit to Áras an Uachtaráin  was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

The first Housing construction of the limerick Regeneration Programme finally got underway at Cliona Park Moyross today when the Contractor Clancy Construction (build@clancyconstruction.ie) went on site.

The contract consists of 33 new homes broken down as 20 apartments for older persons and 13 houses for families. The cost of the contract is just under five Million euro and it will take about 15 months to complete.

The project should provide in the region of 70 jobs during the course of construction.
