The Mayor of Limerick City, Councillor Kevin kiely in the presence of a large number of residents offically opened the newly refurbished outdoor sports complex in Moyross. This facility is a key component of the Limerick Regeneration Programme relating to the social inclusion of young people through personal social, sporting and recreational activities. The new Outdor Sports Complex will be available for use by all of the local community especially the schools & local clubs.

Following on from the success of the Christmas concert last year, Children from schools in the Regeneration Areas took to the stage again with members of the Irish Chamber Orchestra in St. Marys Parish Church. Now almost two years into the programme, Galvone Primary School has a full strings orchestra of its own, made up of teachers, children and the school caretaker.

Rugby Comes to Southill

On Wednesday afternoon the 21st April 2010 in an event jointly orginised by the Limerick Regeneration Agency, Southill Junior School and Young Munster RFC Rugby was brought to the community of Southill. This is the first in a series of initiatives that Young Munster RFC are undertaking in conjunction with Limerick Regeneration Agency to engage with children living in the Regeneration areas on the Southside of the city, namely, Southill and Ballinacurra Weston.

Mayor of LImerick Councillor Kevin Kiely, in the presence of Munster Rugby Sqad members on 20th April 2010 officially opened the Southside Youth Space now know as The Factory, which is based in the Old Fulflex Building in the Galvone Industrial Estate, Limerick. The Youth Space caters for all young people, aged between 10-21 years, who looking fro a safe and stimulating environment to spend their free time, engage in activities such as the creative arts, sports and educational pursuits, and to become active in their own community. Facilities in the Factory include two indoor pitches which can be used for soccer, badminton, basketball, hockey, ETC. A dance studio, PC suite, meeting rooms and a permanent rehearsal space where music equipment will be available, in addition to a small art room. The Factory can be contacted directly at 061-422385

“Incredible Years Programme“

After 14 weeks parents who took part in a parenting programme in Southill have graduated. The Programme was run using workshops which focused on different aspects of parenting. The programme has been running for the past two years in Southill Junior School with the help of Southill Junior School, Southill Family Resource centre, Limerick Regeneration and Paul Partnership. it forms part of the National “Incredible years“ Educational Programme.

FAI FAS Soccer Skills Development Course

FAS and the Football Association of Ireland, in Co-Operation with Limerick Regeneration Agencies, today announced the launch of new Soccer Skills Development Programme in Limerick. Present at the launch was Mr. Peter Power Minister of state for Overseas Development, Mr. Packie Bonner FAI Technical Director, Ger Fahy Deputy Mayor of Limerick and Mary Donnelly FAS Regional Director. 50% of the participants come from the Regeneration Areas of Limerick City.
